BACKGROUND:

A civil engineering graduate of Auburn University, Mr. Austin is a licensed professional engineer with experience in project administration, construction, materials testing, and failure analysis.  His experience includes preparation and review of design drawings and contract documents and performance of construction inspections for bridges; highways and roads; residential, commercial, institutional, and government buildings; retaining walls; water reservoirs; and highway safety upgrades.  He has performed materials testing and managed accredited laboratories that performed ASTM and AASHTO tests on soils, asphalt, and concrete for construction projects.  He also is experienced in construction project administration.

Mr. Austin has provided structural failure analyses since 2012, which include analyses of building/non-building structure collapse/damage assessments; moisture intrusion/leaks; and foundation evaluations for residential, institutional, and commercial building structures.  Cause and origin investigations have been performed on buildings due to storm damage (hail/wind/tornado/lightning), flooding, impact damage, construction vibrations, improper construction, site drainage issues, and plumbing leaks.  He has also performed residential and commercial inspections on multiple pitched and low-slope roofing materials, including asphalt shingles; clay, concrete, asbestos-cement, fiber-cement, natural slate, and synthetic (rubber, plastic) tiles; metal panels; metal shingles/shakes; wood shakes; thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO); ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM); polyvinyl chloride (PVC); modified bitumen; and built-up asphalt roofing.
