Back-to-back earthquakes rattle Anchorage, Alaska

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake followed by a 5.7 magnitude earthquake ripped across Anchorage, Alaska last week, causing widespread damage to roads, bridges, residential and commercial structures, and power lines. More than 1,000 aftershocks, ranging from magnitudes of more than 4.5 to less than 2.5, occurred after the powerful quake. Accessibility continues to be limited in certain areas due to sinkholes, cracked pavements, and collapsed bridges.
