Chip Haire

Background

Mr. Chip Haire holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, with a technical emphasis on structural engineering.  He is a registered professional engineer in multiple states and has nearly 20 years of consulting engineering experience.

Mr. Haire’s extensive professional engineering experience includes structural inspections, design, and engineering involving steel, aluminum, concrete, concrete masonry unit (CMU), wood, and cold-formed steel components.  His projects include power generation (fossil, hydroelectric, combined cycle, and wind), nuclear, government, heavy and light industrial, commercial, and residential structures.  Structural design projects include new construction, addition, remediation, and analysis of complex building frames and reinforced concrete footings, water intake structures, coal bunkers, pre-engineered metal building analysis, equipment and duct supports, pipe and cable tray supports, bridge cranes and monorails, stack and silo foundations, building mat foundations, stair towers, personnel access platforms and walkways, retaining walls, elevators, large building sumps and a tank pit (including buoyancy analysis), pile cap design, failing CMU basement wall support, wood floor and roof truss remediation, concrete blast walls and windborne missile resistant design, personnel tie-off points and lifelines, below the hook lifting devices (and performed OSHA required load testing), and rigging load design.

Mr. Haire also has extensive experience evaluating and producing lifting and rigging plans, including high-risk plans and personnel lifts (man-basket and bosun’s chair).  Lift planning also includes picks inside buildings/structures with drifting, in-air manipulations, and analysis of existing structures for imposed loads; and picks using cranes relative to analysis of the crane capacity, ground bearing pressures, and mat design.

Mr. Haire has experience using a FARO Focus 3D laser scanner and associated software to ensure accuracy in structural design and lift planning activities.

As a forensic engineer, Mr. Haire has responded to, performed, managed, and provided remedial direction for various damage assessments including foundation failures, CMU basement wall failures, structural steel failures, concrete failures, construction deficiencies, post-fire wood and steel analysis, water intrusion location and damage assessment, retaining wall failure, floor and roof failure/damage (steel bar joists and deck, and wood trusses), wood destroying insect damage, shear wall failure, concrete anchorage failure, lifting and rigging failure, earth slope failure due to crane overburden pressure, and wall movement/deflection from improper roof framing.
