Aman Gupta, Ph.D.

Senior Consultant

Forensic Services

Newark

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Aman Gupta received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago where he conducted his doctoral research in collaboration with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. Dr. Gupta has over 12 years of diverse research and consulting experience including 6 years as a scientific researcher and over 6 years as a forensic biomechanical consultant. Dr. Gupta’s scientific research has broadly focused on orthopedic biomechanics and medical imaging which included assessment of joint contact pressures following surgical procedures for restoring shoulder loading biomechanics to the pre-injury condition, biomechanical evaluation of bioabsorbable fixation for PCL graft reconstruction, biomechanical evaluation of rotator cuff repair techniques, assessment of knee joint pressures following a meniscectomy, meniscal transplantation and a high tibial osteotomy, 3D digital motion analysis for tissue surface strain measurements, and development and refinement of advanced quantitative MRI techniques such as Diffusion Tensor Imaging for non-invasive characterization of tendon and ligament structure. Dr. Gupta’s work has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Critical Reviews™ in Biomedical Engineering, among others. Dr. Gupta has presented his research at several conferences including the Orthopedic Research Society and International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.

Dr. Gupta’s professional work experience encompasses investigations focusing on injury assessment and injury causation biomechanics in low-speed motor vehicle accidents, slip, trip, and fall accidents, and occupational accidents. In particular, Dr. Gupta has worked on assignments determining occupant kinematics, injury likelihood, injury tolerance and mechanisms of injury in motor vehicle collisions; seatbelt restraint use/evaluation; kinematic analysis of human gait in slips, trips, and falls; balance recovery responses to loss of balance; human ambulation, foot placement/clearances and slip, trips and falls on stairs; human reaction times and gaze behavior during ambulation in different environments; kinematic analysis of human ambulation from surveillance videos; impact analysis from falling objects, among others.

Dr. Gupta has testified in both depositions and trials in the area of injury causation biomechanics in the States of New York and New Jersey. Dr. Gupta is fluent in English and Hindi.
