Anastasios D. Tsoumanis

Division Manager / Ph.D., ACTAR, CPSI / Atlanta / Birmingham

Dr. Tsoumanis is a graduate in Biomedical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. His primary areas of consulting expertise include injury causation biomechanics, vehicle accident reconstruction, and medical device failures. Dr. Tsoumanis performs biomechanical analysis on cases involving low-speed accidents, driver determination, falling objects, helmet usage, and slip/trip and falls. He has reconstructed accidents involving high-speed fatality collisions, pedestrian accidents, vehicle rollovers, and has evaluated failures of medical and rehabilitation devices. He is fluent in English and Greek.

Dr. Tsoumanis’s prior experience has included multiple aspects of orthopedic, knee joint biomechanics, rehabilitative engineering, neuromuscular motor control, and research. He has significant publication records addressing basic, applied, and clinical orthopedic and sensory-motor control topics and has performed collaborative research with other intramural departments. His Master’s and Ph.D. studies focused on joint biomechanics, neurophysiology and neuromuscular motor control, voluntary and involuntary reactions, motor and sensory reflexes with emphasis on neuromechanics and rehabilitations strategies after injuries. He performed biomechanical and electromyographic (EMG) analyses on human subjects using mathematical modeling along with the design and application of biomedical instrumentation and robotic devices for data collection purposes.
