Background

Mr. Pai is a licensed civil engineer, structural engineer, and general contractor who received his B.S. in civil engineering from National Chiao Tung University and his M.S. in civil/structural engineering from Stanford University. His expertise in civil/structural design and construction spans a broad range of markets, including residential, commercial, industrial, electronics, pharmaceutical, education, health care, and research. He has delivered complex, high-profile projects on fast-track schedules in the U.S. and Asia, employing  state-of-the-art, performance-based designs for several mission-critical facilities.  

With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Pai is familiar with a broad range of building materials and systems for new construction, renovations, and repairs. His skills include construction document production, specification writing and editing, structural analysis and design, project management and scheduling, construction administration and management, cost estimating and budget control, implementation of quality control procedures, and forensic field investigations. He is also experienced in roofing and building envelope evaluations, facilities assessments, ADA analysis, building consultants coordination, and construction contract administration and support.

Mr. Pai has extensive knowledge in structural damage assessment, mitigation, and strengthening. He is able to address all aspects of building assessment, including scope, schedule, and cost of repair, as well as cause and origin of damage. Mr. Pai is well-versed in the application of the International Building Code, California Building Code, ASCE 07, for seismic and wind  loads, and the following design specifications: ACI for concrete structures, ACI 530 for masonry, AISC for steel structures, SJI for steel joists, SDI for steel decks, and NDS for wood structures.

He has been a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California since 1986 and is also registered as a post-earthquake disaster emergency service worker.
