Kavita K. Walia

Dr. Walia is a microbiologist and food safety specialist with over 10 years of experience working in the food processing, agricultural, and pharmaceutical industries. She holds a doctorate in Microbiology from Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland, an M.Sc. degree in Food Safety & Risk Analysis from University College Dublin, and a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Toxicology from the University of Guelph in Canada.  

Over the course of her career, Dr. Walia has gained experience in general environmental microbiology, specifically pre- and post-harvest food safety, as well as expertise on developing control strategies against foodborne pathogens in pigs. Her knowledge extends to on-farm biosecurity, site inspections, and the development of ill-worker restriction policies. She also has written safety reviews, qualitative risk assessments, and gap analyses on a variety of microbial and toxic hazards for the food industry. Dr. Walia has direct experience working with hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) and on-farm food safety programs and possesses working knowledge of the food safety acts/regulations of Canada, the United States, and the European Union.
