Mr. Daruwalla attended the University of Miami, where he earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA degree in International Business. He is a registered professional engineer in three states, a registered special inspector in the state of Florida, and a LEED® accredited professional through the U.S. Green Building Council. His experience and industry knowledge cover over 30 years in structural engineering design, condition assessment surveys, engineering management, construction management, construction defect investigations, roofing and waterproofing failure investigations, building forensics, plumbing failure investigations, scheduling, contract management, and safety and quality assurance. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Daruwalla has performed the structural design of numerous buildings—including hospitals, high-rise condos, office buildings, mansions, and resorts—for some of the world’s most renowned architects, including I.M.Pei and Michael Graves. He has conducted condition surveys of major facilities such as JFK International Airport, and has prepared rehabilitation drawings and managed construction for several historical and other commercial/residential facilities including high-rises that experienced damage caused by storms, age-related deterioration, or negligence. He has investigated and analyzed roofing and floor/slab failures, hurricane/earthquake/tornado damage, concrete and masonry cracking, retaining wall, foundations and seawall distress, chloride corrosion of concrete structures, and joist and truss failures. His expertise further extends into the analysis of chipped/delaminated tiles, moisture intrusion, and building envelope failures. His construction experience includes the $1.3 billion American Airlines expansion at Miami International Airport, Broward Schools, churches, and multi-purpose buildings. He also has extensive practice in verifying construction compliance with applicable building codes, contract specs, and OSHA requirements.
In addition to providing testimony in court as an expert witness on construction-defect issues and damage to property-related matters, Mr. Daruwalla regularly provides engineering consultations and deposition testimonies to attorneys for construction, forensic, and cause and origin disputes.
