Background


Mr. Bessette holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. He also has an M.S. in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he focused on geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and the design and construction of asphalt and concrete pavements. He is a licensed civil engineer in Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

Through his career, Mr. Bessette progressed from Field Engineer to Project Manager for Hayward Baker. He has direct experience as the on-site representative who oversaw quality control and material sampling, created procedural guidelines, and managed subcontractors. As a Project Manager, he designed and managed the construction of foundations for liquid storage tanks in the United States Gulf Coast, Missouri, and Utah; the construction of commercial properties for retail development including grading, cut/fill measurement, and maintaining SWPPP Best-Management Practices in Kansas, California, and New Mexico; and numerous highway embankment and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls in Utah, Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado, Texas, and Louisiana.

Mr. Bessette’s background in engineering has covered slope stability, erosion control measures, surveying, liquefaction mitigation, generation of grading plans, expansive/collapsible soils, bearing capacity and ground failure, MSE and retaining wall design and construction, hydrology, advanced rock mechanics, helical pile installation, and the design and testing of geosynthetics. Mr. Bessette is also knowledgeable in the use of soil improvement techniques to improve mine tailings with prefabricated vertical drains, karst and liquefiable materials with compaction grouting, and urban fills with deep dynamic compaction, as well as foundation support systems such as micropiles, rigid inclusions, and stone columns. His background in construction has made him well-versed in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment including tractors, payloaders, excavators, skid-steers, drills, augers, and other specialized equipment.
