Michael A. Caldarone

Mr. Caldarone is a Structural Engineer by education and has been a practicing Materials Engineer for more than 30 years. He has diverse and extensive professional experience as an investigator, problem solver, and expert witness in matters related to concrete, cement-based materials, and concrete construction. His broad career experience includes commercial-, industrial-, and infrastructure-related projects. His experience in buildings is broad and ranges from low- and mid-rise buildings to very tall buildings. His experience includes preconstruction service life engineering and investigations of many U.S. Embassy buildings worldwide during all phases of construction. He has extensive construction and materials experience with industrial facilities, including power plants, LNG storage facilities, and cement manufacturing plants. He has been engaged in all construction phases of bridges of all types and sizes. Other civil projects he has been engaged with include parking structures, airport terminals, sports stadiums, bullet train support structures, military bases, pavements, runways, interchanges, and dam spillways.
Mr. Caldarone has been a consulting engineer for nearly 20 years. Prior to becoming a consultant, he spent over 10 years in industrial management positions with vertically integrated manufacturers of cement, aggregates, and concrete, where he engaged in the technical, economic, and management aspects of cement, aggregates, and concrete production. Mr. Caldarone’s career experience includes the commercial development, production, and evaluation of ready-mixed, precast, and prestressed concrete and other cement-based materials, including grout and mortar. His professional expertise includes a strong emphasis in the fields of high-strength, high-performance, and ultra-high performance concrete. His book, “High-Strength Concrete: A Practical Guide,” was published in 2009 by Routledge.
