Susan L. Ferrel

Background 

Ms. Ferrel is a Licensed Professional Geologist with over 30 years’ experience in providing dedicated environmental consulting services to the insurance industry, engineering firms, and transportation and private sector clients. 

She has served as “in-house” Senior Environmental Consultant at American International Group (AIG) where she provided technical expertise and support to various AIG environmental claims departments.  These services included evaluating contaminant source and timing, performing reasonable and necessary cost assessments, estimating remediation costs, technical document review, and providing support for litigation and settlement negotiations. 

Her vast technical experience includes the planning, design and implementation of site assessments, sampling programs, and remedial actions conducted as part of property transfers, underground storage tank programs, roadway/bridge improvement projects, contamination investigations and maintenance facility investigations.  While managing these projects, she has gained extensive experience with remedial construction programs, property acquisition, permitting, regulatory requirements and the preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates. Her responsibilities have ranged from field geologist to program manager and included field coordination, field management and overall project management of subsurface investigations.  

In addition, Ms. Ferrel’s broad geotechnical experience includes engineering investigations, design, permitting, and construction oversight. Typical projects include site (and brownfield) development, stormwater management systems, roadways, utilities, landfills, bridges/overpasses, storage tanks, parks and wetlands along with preparation of regulatory permits.
