Background

Dr. Poerio is a licensed professional engineer with extensive experience in both construction and mechanical systems. His 30 years of experience in the construction industry include a wide variety of assignments with equipment manufacturers, general contractors, architectural firms, and engineering design firms.

As a mechanical design engineer, Dr. Poerio acquired significant knowledge and experience with heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems. His designs include a chilled beam system for a laboratory, a cleanroom for a medical manufacturer, and many commercial buildings such as schools, hospitals, and office buildings.

As a project manager, estimator, and scheduler for a general contractor, Dr. Poerio developed expertise in handling construction claims and disputes. Indeed, he negotiated many subcontractor and supplier agreements, scheduled construction projects, resolved disputes with building owners, and resolved subcontractor disputes both in and out of court. This work included estimating construction projects in excess of $25 million, scheduling a 1.5-year construction project, and spearheading a successful construction delay claim against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a consultant, Dr. Poerio participated in many forensic investigations related to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. He has testified and participated in arbitrations and mediations.
