Background

Mr. Wesley Shifflett is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), and Certified Fire Investigator through the International Association of Fire Investigators (IAAI-CFI). He is employed full-time and part-time by Rockingham County Virginia Fire and Rescue for 25 years where he was involved in many different emergency positions including Firefighter, Master Firefighter, National Registry Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Specialist, Fire inspector, and Assistant Fire Marshal. Mr. Shifflett has completed numerous educational seminars and continuing educational courses, in addition, he holds an associate degree in Fire Science Technology from Thomas Nelson Community College and an associate degree in Emergency Medical Services from Northern Virginia Community College.

Mr. Shifflett investigated over 550 fires as an investigator in residential, commercial, wildland, and vehicular fires and numerous fires as an incident commander at fire scenes. He has given expert and general testimony in civil and criminal court cases, including fires, explosions, fire code issues, and hazardous materials releases.

Mr. Shifflett has also conducted fire and life safety inspections, in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. He has in-depth knowledge of the International Fire Code (IFC) and NFPA in relationship to these types of inspections, and the requirements of maintenance of fire extinguishing and notification devices. Mr. Shifflett has also received in-depth training for the installer and maintenance personnel of commercial cooking hoods in restaurants.

Mr. Shifflett has been recognized for his achievements by being the recipient of awards that include the Distinguished Unit Citation, and Meritorious Conduct Award, during his career.
