ARRIÈRE-PLAN:
Dr. Ipek K. Rohloff is an architecture and planning professional with broad knowledge of building design performance. Her professional architect training followed her fascination with glass buildings, and for her master’s thesis, she studied curtain-wall technologies that innovate building design with energy performance and transparent facades. Her Ph.D. in architecture advanced her niche in building design with scientific methods in analyzing occupant experience concerning design, as she sees occupant satisfaction as a key to design performance and building owners’ programmatic needs. She applied her methods as a facility planning consultant for cultural institutions. She assisted in the ground-up development of museum facilities by connecting building envelope and energy performance solutions to programmatic requirements through large facilities. Later, she worked on high-end residential design projects where she developed custom restoration and renovation solutions by reviewing the zoning code of various urban/suburban towns in the New York metro area.
Dr. Rohloff has a unique ability to synthesize complex information within systems thinking; in Rimkus, she enjoys using this ability in reporting field inspection results and streamlining the building envelope solutions through Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration phases by effectively coordinating the work between contractors and owners. As a part of her research and teaching engagements, she recently supervised a group student effort proposing a neighborhood plan for an affordable housing community in response to the renewal of Lambert Houses performed by Phipps Houses. Within Rimkus’ teams, she continues expanding her knowledge of building technologies and restoration methods and enjoys developing cost-effective and occupant-sensitive solutions for building owners.
