Doug Anderson

Practice Leader, Code Advisory

Built Environment Solutions

Boston

Background

In his position, Mr. Doug Anderson oversees all aspects of code consulting services for Rimkus’ (formerly Commercial Construction Consulting, LLC) projects and manages the Code Advisory Group.  He joined the firm in 2007 to provide both in-house code consulting services in the firm’s areas of focus and to establish a code consulting group as a new practice of the firm.  Mr. Anderson’s projects have ranged from complicated tenant improvement design to renovation and re-use of existing buildings to new construction of office and residential projects.

He is a member of the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) “Chapter 34 Advisory Committee” (the BBRS is responsible for promulgating, and revising as necessary, the state building code).  The Advisory Committee was recently charged with reviewing the 2021 International Existing Building Code (IEBC) for adoption in Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Rimkus, he was a member of an engineering firm’s code group for 6 years, developing expertise in all codes that impact projects including building, fire, accessibility, zoning, sanitary/health, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.  Mr. Anderson’s experience as a Plans Examiner with the City of Boston Inspectional Services Department gives him a unique perspective on code enforcement and interpretations.  He advises on the permitting process, primarily within the City of Boston but also in other jurisdictions.  He has vast experience interfacing with local building and fire officials in many jurisdictions and has appeared as an expert witness in a number of court cases.
