Michael Wiseman and Tom Young to speak at the 2015 CLM Southern California - Product Liability

Mr. Michael Wiseman, Vice President, and Mr. Tom Young, National Fire Manager, Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc. will speak at the 2015 CLM Southern California Conference in the Product Liability Section.  The conference will be held in Irvine, California on July 16-17.

Mr. Wiseman's topic will be a practical approach on "How to Prevent Spoliation of Evidence in a Product Liability Case."  He received his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at El Paso. After four years commissioned service in the U.S. Navy and five years in the natural gas industry, he received a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, also from the University of Texas at El Paso. He was involved in numerous aspects of the natural gas industry for over twenty years, ranging from the development of computer simulation and business application software to facilities construction, drilling and production activities, purchasing and marketing of natural gas, trading in futures and derivatives contracts, and strategic planning.

During his first 16 years at Rimkus, Mr. Wiseman’s consulting services included the interpretation of natural gas industry contracts as used in the industry over time and the impacts of incidents and occurrences external to the contracts upon contract performance. He has extensive experience in the evaluation of business losses in the oil and gas industry resulting from accidents located anywhere from the wellhead to burner tip, or failure to perform by one or more parties, He is also skilled in the evaluation of business claims attributable to industrial, manufacturing and retail facilities, failure of business counterparts to meet contractual obligations, and unforeseen incidents.

Now in Rimkus’ corporate area, Mr. Wiseman is responsibility for a wide variety of the business practice, including all legal activities, professional and general liability insurance coverage, leasing and property management of 44 U.S. offices plus London, and overall management of Rimkus’ evidence recovery, storage and disposal activities.

Mr. Young has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. His professional career included 27 years as a full time firefighter beginning in Florida 1974 with St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue. During his tenure he was involved in many different emergency service positions including Fire Fighter, Deputy Fire Marshal and Fire Investigations Task Force Supervisor. He has conducted and supervised investigations including complex commercial losses, those losses involving fatalities and large explosion and industrial incidents.

Mr. Young’s topic will be "The Internet of Things and the Inevitable Collision with Product Liability." His passion for fire science and fire origin and cause investigations has led him to be widely known through-out the industry. Furthermore, he participates in, designs, and instructs educational seminars and continuing educational courses through-out the country. Mr. Young has been instrumental in designing and developing 100’s of full scale room fire tests and vehicle live burn demonstrations utilizing new technologies such as FARO scanning and thermal imagery. 

His education, experience and strong leadership have gained him the position of National Fire Manager with Rimkus Consulting Group Inc., overseeing and directing a global team of highly trained fire investigators.
