Philip R. Watters, P.E. and Kieran J. Purcell, P.E. to speak at the 2013 Emerging Environmental Claims Manager Association

Rimkus environmental engineers Philip R. Watters, P.E. and Kieran J. Purcell, P.E. will present "The Oil Field Legacy -- Litigation, Cleanups and Claims" at the 2013 Emerging and Environmental Claims Managers Association (EECMA) on May 2, 2013 in Captiva Island, FL.

Since 2005, over 200 lawsuits have been filed in Louisiana alone, where current landowners claim that oil and gas operations – many that were commenced, operated and abandoned many years ago – have caused contamination to soil and groundwater. Litigation involves common historical drilling and production practices that resulted in spills and releases into coastal areas of Louisiana as well as inadequate plugging and abandoning procedures at the end of the wells’ useful lives, sometimes leading to groundwater contamination or hydrocarbons migrating to the surface.
