Rimkus Connections: February Edition
Rimkus is a worldwide leader in engineering and technical consulting. Operating from more than 100 offices around the globe, we’re committed to assisting clients with innovative approaches to complex questions.
Our team comprises professional engineers, scientists, and technical consultants whose real-world expertise spans a broad spectrum of public and private environments. At Rimkus, our clients can count on us for timely delivery, clear communications, and reliable solutions.
Recalls can be the result of manufacturing defects, design issues, or unexpected and unintended user behaviors – for many, manufacturers' issues due to user behavior can be particularly challenging. Our human factors group can provide the expertise to analyze user behavior. We can help predict potential misuses before they happen or identify ways to address unexpected misuses when they are discovered in the field.
Our product safety team has reviewed thousands of Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls and identified common patterns. Many recalls are related to products that simply break or malfunction, either due to manufacturing or design defects. Whether these issues are electrical or mechanical, Rimkus engineers are well-equipped to investigate such issues.
However, a small but particularly challenging portion of recalls are related to products that did not fail or malfunction, and that meet regulations and standards, yet in actual use a pattern of injuries has emerged. Our human factors team helps predict and prevent these issues for new products and helps identify solutions when issues emerge with products in the field.
Investigating Deck Failure Claims
As outdoor living spaces increase in popularity, many homeowners and contractors are adding decks to their homes after the initial construction and without proper permits or consideration for code requirements, which may lead to deck failures. Rimkus Property experts are often tasked with investigating such accidents and determining the cause of the failures.
Rimkus Forensic Services Update
We’re highlighting some of our key practice areas and services. Read below to learn about property loss and accident reconstruction consulting services our experts provide to Rimkus clients both locally and around the world.
Toxicological Evaluation of Cosmetics: a Primer
Americans spend billions of dollars per year on cosmetic products. Toxicologists play a key role in the development and assessment of cosmetics to ensure their safety for human use. Senior Consultant and toxicologist Dr. Christopher Spaeth explains how toxicology principles are applied to provide insight into the potential hazards and quantifiable risks of a product based on its composition.
Air bags: De-bunking the Myths… It’s Not Rocket Science, or is it?
In the event of a vehicle collision, it is often expected that air bags will deploy to protect the driver and passengers from harm. How did this technology become commonplace, and what do we know about how air bags work?
