Hermine Thrashes East Coast
Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hermine slammed into Florida’s Gulf Coast early Friday as a Category 1 Hurricane; the first hurricane to hit Florida in more than a decade. A few hours after making landfall, Hermine was downgraded into a Tropical Storm and continued crawling up the east coast, producing strong winds, excessive rainfall and storm surges. Hermine prompted emergency declarations in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Extensive damage to residential and commercial structures and motor vehicles was reported from Florida to Virginia.
