Severe Weather Crosses Plains, South and Midwest
On Friday, May 9, 2014, The National Weather Service reported straight line winds up to 120 miles per hour in Southwestern Indiana. Hundreds of homes were damaged, if not completely destroyed, by the powerful storm system. Damages are estimated to total nearly $100 million.
On Saturday, May 10, 2014, Orrick, Missouri was hit hard by an EF-2 tornado. Resident’s homes and local businesses suffered severe structural damage, including dismantled roofs, uprooted trees, and downed power lines.
Thirty reports of tornadoes in Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska and South Dakota came in on Sunday. Thousands of people in Eastern Nebraska saw extensive damage to their homes and businesses and were without power after 70 mile per hour winds plowed through the area. Areas in Iowa and Wisconsin reported golf ball-sized hail and street flooding on Monday.
