Winter Storm Ion Brings Coldest Temperatures in Two Decades
Winter storm Ion, referred to by some meteorologists as a "polar vortex," has brought the coldest temperatures in nearly two decades to most of the continental United States, and record-setting lows in nearly two dozen major cities from Texas to the Midwest. The central states are experiencing sub-zero temperatures, with wind chills of up to minus 50 degrees in some areas. Additionally, Ion will bring blowing and drifting snow through the Ohio River Valley and Great Lakes areas, with anticipated depths of up to 30 inches. While little damage has been reported from this storm to date, the possibility of downed trees and power lines remains. Ice and snow, along with freezing temperatures, are anticipated to cause damage to roads, bridges, water supply, sewers, electrical grids, telecommunications, and building structures, such as roofs, foundations, and plumbing systems, as well as disruption of normal business operations.
Rimkus is ready to assist in evaluating property damage and business interruption issues throughout the affected areas. Please call 800-580-3228 to request engineering and construction consulting services.
