Winter Storm Jonas Brings Record Snowfall
Winter Storm Jonas rattled the Mid-Atlantic States last Friday and Saturday, producing widespread snowfall totals of one to three feet and causing eleven states to declare a state of emergency. Hundreds of thousands of people went without power as the strong winds and ice brought down electric lines. Virginia, Delaware and Maryland saw winds reach 75mph.
Parts of New Jersey endured extreme flooding where the storm surge hit a record 9.4 feet. West Virginia had the most snowfall with 42 inches while Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and New York City shattered daily records for the most snow on January 23.
