Achtergrond

Raina Shah is hoofdconsultant in de Human Factors-groep en geeft leiding aan activiteiten op het gebied van chemische risicocommunicatie. Ze heeft uitgebreide ervaring in rechtszaken met betrekking tot communicatie over chemische gevaren, gezondheid en veiligheid op het werk en veiligheid en waarschuwingen voor consumentenproducten. Haar activiteiten omvatten onderzoek naar de reacties van gebruikers op waarschuwingen en instructies; het evalueren van productveiligheidsinformatie in consumenten-, medische, recreatieve, detailhandels- en beroepscontexten; het analyseren van product- en bedrijfsongevallen en veiligheidskwesties in gebouwen; en het geven van algemeen advies over veiligheid en menselijke factoren.

Shah heeft een actieve rol gespeeld in nationale normen voor waarschuwingen en instructies voor consumentenproducten (ANSI Z535), chemische etikettering (ANSI Z129.1) en veiligheidsinformatiebladen (ANSI Z400.1), en ze heeft regelmatig gastcolleges gegeven aan de Universiteit van Michigan over onderwerpen als communicatie over gevaren, afleiding van de bestuurder en onzekere gezondheids- en veiligheidsrisico's.

Mevrouw Shah heeft een mastergraad in Industrial and Operations Engineering van de Universiteit van Michigan. Ze heeft ook twee bachelordiploma's van de Universiteit van Michigan, één in psychologie en één in industriële en operationele techniek. Tijdens haar studie aan de Universiteit van Michigan assisteerde mevrouw Shah bij het onderzoek aan het University of Michigan Center for Ergonomics op het gebied van biomechanica en simulatie van menselijke bewegingen. Ze werkte ook bij de Human Factors Division van het University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, waar ze onderzoek deed naar menselijke factoren bij het ontwerp van bestuurdersinterfaces.
