Course Description: Forensic Toxicology for Drug and Alcohol Cases is a one-hour course designed to help participants understand the technical issues surrounding the usefulness and validity of drug and alcohol testing in the determination of the degree of impairment in transportation, industrial, and premises liability accidents.
The information within the course will provide fundamentals of drug and alcohol toxicology and descriptors of degree of impairment. Within the course, actual testing, outcomes, and case studies will be examined. The presentation format includes PowerPoint instruction videos as visual stimuli for the procedures of testing and analyzing outcome data.

Dr. Christopher Spaeth is a Rimkus Senior Consultant with more than 17 years of experience in toxicology, neuroscience, genetics, and molecular biology. He specializes in neuro-toxicology cases, specifically those involving the psychomotor impairments of both prescription and recreational drugs, including alcohol, cocaine, THC, opiates, methamphetamines, anti-depressants, and anti-anxiety drugs. Dr. Spaeth describes the molecular mechanism of drug action that correlates to possible impairments when performing complex activities, especially driving. He has extensive experience in cases involving the interaction of multiple drugs, as well as dram shop cases. He manages projects involving exposure to chemicals and specializes in toxicology for consumer products, hazard, dose, exposure and risk assessments, and molecular and genetic mechanisms of toxicological endpoints. He holds a Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.Sc. in comprehensive science from Villanova University.
