Course Description: Trips and Falls: Premises Liability and Human Factors Considerations is a one-hour presentation designed to help attendees understand the types of trip hazards and how they can lead to falls. This presentation reviews common plaintiff allegations, expert criticisms in trip/fall claims, types of experts helpful for trip/fall cases, and the codes, standards, and regulations that address trip/fall hazards. It also examines human factors concepts and how they can play a meaningful part in determining liability in trip/fall matters. Case studies involving these types of incidents are also shared.

Brian C. Grieser, P.E., C.P.S.M., CSP, CPE

Brian Grieser is a Principal Consultant and licensed professional engineer (P.E.) with more than 27 years of experience. He holds professional certifications as a Product Safety Manager (CPSM), Safety Professional (CSP), Professional Ergonomist (CPE), and XL Tribometrist (CXLT). Mr. Grieser’s recent professional activities include studies on walkway and shoe slip resistance assessment; human vibration and acceleration exposure measurement and analysis; recreational boat design, watercraft occupant safety, and towed watersports safety; time and motion; product, occupational, and premises safety assessments; accident investigation; and human movement, climbing, and stability analysis. Mr. Grieser earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Michigan in industrial and operations engineering and naval architecture and marine engineering, respectively.
