BACKGROUND:

Ian previously worked for major construction contractors before transitioning into professional services in 2004. He is an engineer and planner with 38 years of experience in construction, engineering, petrochemical, clean and wastewater process, and building projects, with a grounding in planning and programming.

Ian has experience of all forms of contract and planning matters working for contractors as an engineer up to planning manager for a national construction process company and working as a claim’s consultant and delay expert through to managing director and executive director.

Ian has been appointed as expert on many disputes some high-profile commissions such as the Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium and Humber Gas Pipeline Tunnel.

A recent TCC High Court Judgement before his Honour Judge Stephen Davies sitting as a High Court Judge stated, “Mr Gunton had impressive expertise in delay analysis and had undertaken a detailed and conscientious analysis of the project by reference to the contemporaneous documents as and when he was provided with them which was, overall, significantly more convincing than that of Mr Hudson.”

Ian has knowledge and understanding of all the major forms of contract which include JCT, FIDIC, and NEC.

Ian has provided workshops on Contract Programme Planning, Monitoring and Change Control and provides seminars on the NEC3 and 4 Contract and the planning protocol it prescribes in respect of time. These include the annual LinkedIn NEC3 Conference, RICS across the UK, the Society of Construction Law (SCL), the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA), and the Asta Practical Management of Construction Delay and Disruption Courses.
