Dr. Farheen Khan holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Her Masters and Doctoral work focused on the study of human behavior and risk perception and their effect on accident causation. She has extensive experience with assisting clients in understanding risk perception, human error, and risk-taking behavior in product liability, construction, industrial, mining, and railroad accidents.

Dr. Khan has designed and evaluated warning labels, safety instructions, and operator manuals as well as safety program documentation for major manufacturers and organizations. She has also written and evaluated safety program documents, assessed the risk of injury from operations, performed numerous safety audits, analyzed injury and illness data, and investigated accidents to provide guidance on injury reduction of state-run facilities for the State of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin as well as major corporations.

Dr. Khan has conducted numerous investigations with issues related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) compliance; premises liability; product design; ergonomics; alarms and sounds; warning label design; adequacy of warnings, instructions, and training; product/equipment use/misuse; heavy construction equipment design/operation/use; construction site accidents; industrial and occupational safety; transportation and utility accidents; railroad grade crossing accidents; warehouse operations; and loading docks. She has extensive experience in evaluating accidents related to visibility and conspicuity; fatigue and stress; illumination and contrast; workload and work schedules; decision making; attention and distraction; human response to alarms, fires, and emergencies; human error and risk-taking behavior; perception-reaction time; and driver behavior.

Dr. Khan participates in several standard development committees for the International Organization of Standardization (ISO), ASTM International (ASTM), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Dr. Khan is a member of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) where she participates in planning continuing education for heavy equipment manufacturers in the areas of safety and human factors.
