Background

The Beauly-Denny overhead line (OHL) is 137 miles long and runs from Beauly, north of Inverness, to Denny, near Falkirk. It was the first 400kV overhead line built in this network area and became fully operational in 2015. There are two circuits on the overhead line: one running at 400kV and the other at 275kV.

This impressive project was showcased in “New Power to the People,” a documentary series on BBC 4.

Services Provided

Rimkus provided commercial and contract management support services on the £680M Beauly-Denny 400kV OHL project at the Invitation to Tender and post-contract award stages, including the finalisation of contractor accounts. The works included the installation of 537 no electricity pylons along a challenging 200km route through the Scottish Highlands, along with the construction of 5 no substations, all of which involved multiple wayleaves, environment constraints, and third-party interfaces.
