Evan P. McConnell, P.E., ACTAR

Principal Consultant

Forensic Services

BACKGROUND:

Mr. Evan McConnell holds a B.S. degree in Bioengineering and an M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering, and he is a registered professional engineer in the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. He is also an Accredited Traffic Accident Reconstructionist through the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR #3600) and a certified XL Tribometrist.

Mr. McConnell has extensive experience in analyzing the dynamics and biomechanics involved in numerous accidental events, including low- and high-speed auto accidents, slip and fall events, and workplace injuries, among others. His education, training, and experience allows him to evaluate the forces and motions experienced by individuals in these events and thus determine the consistency of claimed injuries with the dynamics of the event in question. He has performed reconstructions of a variety of different types of vehicle accidents and is a Bosch-certified Crash Data Retrieval Technician. Mr. McConnell has testified in courts in Georgia and Tennessee and has been repeatedly admitted as an expert in the areas of biomechanical engineering and traffic accident reconstruction.

Mr. McConnell has also been the lead investigator responsible for conducting premises liability evaluations. These evaluations have consisted of analyzing walkway accidents in a variety of settings that have included single- and multi-family, mixed-used facilities; hotels; retail buildings; restaurants; and parking lots. In the course of completing these evaluations, he has determined compliance with walkway safety standards, building code, and ADA requirements.

Prior to joining Rimkus, Mr. McConnell led research projects aimed at studying forces and motions experienced by individuals during a variety of movement tasks. This involved research planning, subject recruitment, data collection, and data processing and analysis. Mr. McConnell has also worked in concert with orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists to quantify injury mechanisms and tissue tolerances related to surgical fixation techniques. Additionally, he has collaborated with orthopedic surgeons to design a surgical device for use in procedures addressing shoulder instability.
