Joseph D. O’Neill, P.E.

Senior Consultant

Forensic Services

Boston

BACKGROUND:

Mr. Joseph O’Neill holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering as well as an M.S. degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He is a registered professional engineer in multiple states with experience in structural engineering, site civil engineering, land surveying, and forensic engineering.

As a licensed design professional, Mr. O’Neill has experience in the design of a wide variety of new structures as well as the analysis of existing structures. He has direct design experience in steel, aluminum, bronze, concrete, masonry, wood, and cold-formed metals. He has designed and overseen the construction of a variety of structures including residential, municipal, and industrial structures. In addition to structures, Mr. O’Neill has a design background in site grading and drainage, and stormwater system design. As a forensic engineer, Mr. O’Neill performs a wide range of inspections and cause and origin analysis of storm-related damage, water damage, structural fire damage, construction defects and accidents, design defects, and building code evaluations.

Mr. O’Neill’s experience as both a structural design engineer and site design engineer required thorough knowledge of structural engineering fundamentals and building code requirements. The pairing of the two engineering practices has provided him with a unique background. While engaged in forensic analysis of damaged structures, his knowledge of structural design and force transfer is directly applicable. When premises liability or building code compliance is the focus of an investigation, his background in site design and familiarity with building codes, site layout protocols, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) allows for a direct and accurate analysis. His years of experience spent both creating and reviewing construction document packages, as well as inspecting structures, under construction or in their completed state, makes him a qualified candidate for the investigation of construction defect claims.
