BACKGROUND:
Along with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical and Earthquake Engineering, Mr. Mario DiNicola is a registered professional engineer in California and Nevada. He has extensive experience in geotechnical design for slope stability, earth-retaining structures, shallow and deep foundations, deep excavations, seismic hazard analysis, and settlement analysis. His expertise has then evolved to forensic consulting, construction defect litigation, and geotechnical risk evaluation associated with foundations and soils for new and existing structures. He has advised insurance firms on portfolio risk mitigation, geotechnical risk, earthquake risk, and provided third-party peer review for projects throughout the U.S., Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore. He has also peer reviewed hundreds of geotechnical reports and foundation plans, and performed geotechnical risk assessments and foundations failure analyses.
As a forensic geotechnical engineer, he provides consulting services for legal, insurance, and builder professionals that include analysis and causation of foundation failures, landslides, and settlement-related distress for commercial and residential structures, including soils stabilization and mitigation measures. As a geotechnical expert, he worked on construction defect litigation cases in California and Arizona.
Mr. DiNicola has been an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Geo-Institute Deep Foundation Technical Committee and Earthquake and Soil Dynamics Technical Committee. He was a former member of the Geo-Institute Soils Improvement Technical Committee. He is also an active member of the Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance Organization.
