Background

Dr. Xiao completed his Ph.D. in Biomechanics at University of Delaware.  His primary areas of consulting expertise include injury causation biomechanics, accident reconstruction, and playground safety.  Dr. Xiao performs biomechanical analyses on cases involving vehicle accidents, seatbelt and helmet usage, falling objects, slip/trip and falls and other injury accident/incidents.  He also identifies hazards on public playground equipment and the playground; ranks the hazards according to injury potential; and applies the knowledge to remove the hazards and establish a system of inspections and maintenance.  Dr. Xiao is an ACTAR-Accredited Traffic Accident Reconstructionist and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector.

Prior to joining Rimkus, Dr. Xiao had worked at medical school and hospital. While working at Yale University Medical School, he led a research project funded by Center for Disease Control to evaluate occupant cervical spinal injury potential/causation in rear-end collisions. He also collaborated with neurosurgeon to determine the mechanical strength of spinal tissue to choose the proper surgical instrumentation.  Dr. Xiao was part of the rehabilitation treatment program for spinal cord injured patients while working at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, affiliated with Northwestern University.  He has published peer-reviewed journal papers and presented at numerous national/international science conferences.  Dr. Xiao has testified in court and depositions.
