BACKGROUND:

As a formerly licensed general contractor and a registered professional engineer in multiple states, Mr. Steven Boyd has a diverse experience in the construction, evaluation, design, and engineering of foundations, site drainage, underground utilities, asphalt, framing, structural steel, concrete, building envelopes, windows, exterior cladding systems, interior and exterior finishes, roofing systems, natatoriums, building codes, HVAC, and fire sprinkler and plumbing systems on commercial, industrial, and residential projects. He is also experienced in the standard of care for general contractors, construction managers, owner representatives, and subcontractors.

Mr. Boyd has installed, evaluated, and designed building envelopes and weather resistance barriers (WRB) for natatoriums and commercial and residential projects.  This includes the integration of wood siding, cementitious stucco, External Insulating Finish Systems (EIFS), masonry, synthetic siding, composite siding, flashings, trim, windows, and doors for a proper drainage system. Mr. Boyd has also designed, evaluated, and installed waterproof membrane systems for decks, foundations, and parking garages.

Mr. Boyd has extensive experience in OSHA construction site safety requirements and safety standards of care for subcontractors and general contractors. He has received both the OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour training and is also a certified forklift operator, mobile crane inspector, and rigging inspector. Mr. Boyd has investigated multiple construction, crane, and forklift accidents and failures during his time with Rimkus.

As a general contractor, Mr. Boyd supervised, managed, and reviewed quality standards for the many trade subcontractors involved in the construction process. In some cases, as a general contractor, the building systems were installed by Mr. Boyd’s own employees. Through this experience, Mr. Boyd has intimate knowledge of the many different materials, products, applicable building codes, and challenges to coordinate and install these systems during the construction of buildings.

Mr. Boyd also has direct experience with the process and requirements to install underground utilities, including utility locates and damage to utilities. As a general contractor, Mr. Boyd coordinated with and installed underground gas, electric, sewer, and water utilities. Mr. Boyd is familiar with the Call 811 underground locate systems and the standard of care for excavators, locators, and utility companies.

He has extensive experience in all phases of conceptual planning, design, and construction. As a subcontractor, general contractor, and owner’s representative, he has managed, supervised, and coordinated the construction of commercial, governmental, retail, educational, healthcare, industrial, and residential structures across a range of project delivery mechanisms, including plan and spec, design-build, design-assist, and negotiated scopes of work.

As a general contractor, Mr. Boyd was responsible for budgets, scheduling, estimating, bidding, subcontractor scope, communication, coordination, site safety, and quality control/assurance. His experience as an owner’s representative includes contract negotiation, budgets, pay applications, weather delays, critical path scheduling analysis (Primavera), change order/claims management, quality control, and evaluation of defective work. He has also performed pay application analysis, value engineering evaluations/recommendations, scope and proposal reviews, on-site management, and submittal coordination. He has also worked with local building departments to interpret building codes.

Mr. Boyd has evaluated buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots for compliance with ADA compliance. He is a Certified XL Tribometrist for the evaluation of the coefficient of friction (COF) of floor surfaces and bathtubs.
