James is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 20 years of experience in construction.

He has worked for consultant quantity surveyors, main contractors, and sub-contractors in numerous construction sectors. James has been appointed as an independent quantum expert on many occasions including as single joint expert. He is recommended as a “Global Leader” in Who’s Who Legal Construction Consulting Experts, and is referred to as “an extremely thorough expert who is able to produce clear reports and calculations” and a “standout construction expert.”

James has advised clients and their legal teams on a wide variety of projects within the public and private sectors. This has involved undertaking detailed complex quantum analysis, preparing estimates for his expert reports, writing joint statements, and leading meetings with technical experts.

He has been appointed as quantum expert on projects in the UK, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. His breadth of clients is varied and includes major insurance groups, main contractors, major infrastructure joint ventures (JV), utility providers, local authorities, private developers, and professional services providers.

James has been instructed as a quantum expert in the Technology and Construction Court, The Royal Court of Guernsey, and ICC Arbitration. He is regularly appointed on behalf of major insurance groups in terms of recovery actions, claim defence, and alternative dispute resolution.

James has wide experience of most forms of construction contracts including JCT, NEC, and various bespoke forms of contract typical to Infrastructure, Energy, and Process Engineering projects.
