Dr. Paul Frantz is Vice President, Human Factors, and co-founder at Applied Safety and Ergonomics, Inc., A Rimkus Company. For more than 20 years, he served as an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan, teaching product and occupational safety management. He also served on the Advisory Board at the Center for Ergonomics at the University of Michigan.

His education and professional activities include a wide range of issues in human factors/ergonomics, product and occupational safety, and warnings. He has over 30 years of practice in these areas including research, consulting, teaching, and investigating human factors in accident causation.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Frantz has served as the American Society of Safety Professionals representative on the ANSI Z535 committee, the committee that develops national standards for warning signs, labels, symbols, and messages in manuals. He served as the Vice-Chairman of ANSI Z535 from 2012 to 2020, and he served as the Chairperson for ANSI Z535.6 during the development of the ANSI Z535.6 standard for safety messages in product manuals and throughout that standard’s first years of use.

Dr. Frantz is a nationally recognized researcher and consultant whose research has been used to inform national standards committees regarding warnings design, national safety agencies regarding human factors in product safety, and product safety managers regarding human factors in accident causation.
