Background

Mr. John H. Oppenheim is a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in structural and geotechnical engineering. He also has course credits toward an M.B.A. from the University of Houston. He is a licensed civil engineer in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. He is a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) as well as a Certified Quality Manager for Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).

He earned his initial P.E. license in Colorado in January of 2001. Early in his professional career, he acquired proficiency in basic civil design and project management work for various local engineering consulting firms (from 2001 through 2012). After that, Mr. Oppenheim worked for a privately owned environmental engineering renewables company (at the time approximately 300 employees) in Boulder, Colorado, on a temporary (3 to 5 year) contract. While employed there, he gained first-hand steel tower construction design and field experience in all facets of the development and construction process for a “first of its kind”, nationwide ecological observatory network federally funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

After that project was completed, he worked for DONAN (a nationally known forensics engineering company), as a Forensics Consultant. He conducted on-site engineering inspections throughout an 11-state region and produced detailed, unbiased in-house engineering reports to be used by clients (primarily insurance providers). Subsequently, Mr. Oppenheim worked as a Site Civil Engineer (Transportation Group) and Design Engineering Quality Assurance Manager (DEQAM) for Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers in Lone Tree, Colorado.

Today, Mr. Oppenheim is a Senior Consultant for Rimkus, located in the Denver office, where he primarily performs property and construction defects investigations of various types. He has a thorough understanding of residential and commercial building code requirements and is trained and familiar with a variety of non-destructive building investigation techniques. His previous forensic property experience combined with his civil engineering design and construction experience gives him depth in his analysis of cause and origin of failures in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and in site development and transportation matters.
