Background
Miss Caroline Stephens holds a B.S degree in Civil Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Alabama. She has a background in land development and has combined this expertise with construction design and stormwater design.
As a civil engineer, Miss Stephens’ design experience included producing construction documents, designing stormwater management systems, developing drainage reports using analysis software (AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydraflow), and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Her project experience includes single-family residential developments, multifamily mixed-use facilities, commercial developments, and healthcare facilities. Upon project completion, she performed as-built evaluations to confirm conformance with design criteria and was routinely engaged to provide corrective redesign services for recently constructed projects exhibiting grading and drainage issues.
Miss Stephens’ work in the field of forensic engineering includes the inspection and analysis of failures relating to civil/structural engineering in residential and commercial structures. Investigations have included inspections and analysis of failures in foundations and structural framing (e.g., wood, masonry, steel, etc.) from causes including weather events (e.g., tree strikes), vehicular impacts, and wood-boring insects (e.g., termites). Representative building envelope investigations have involved inspections and analysis for failures in exterior facades (e.g., brick veneer), steep-slope roof coverings (e.g., asphalt shingles), and low-slope roof coverings that have resulted in interior moisture intrusion.
