Background

Mr. Mike Vix has more than 35 years of experience in the commercial vehicle transportation industry with progressive experience in commercial transportation safety, with deep expertise in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) compliance, including driver qualification, hazardous materials, hours-of-service management, and commercial driver training. His career includes senior-level responsibility for trucking safety strategy, regulatory adherence, and multi-site safety leadership across large, geographically dispersed operations throughout the United States. Mr. Vix holds a current Commercial Driver License (CDL) issued in 1991 by the State of Texas with HazMat, Tanker, Double, and Triple Endorsements.

Mr. Vix served as the organization’s senior safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance leader, advising executive leadership and overseeing driver qualification, Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, vehicle inspections, corrective action processes, and prevention of DOT-recordable and preventable incidents. He led and mentored safety personnel and driver managers to ensure consistent application of FMCSA and PHMSA regulatory compliance across 100+ terminals and a fleet of over 2,000 trucks. Previously, he directed trucking safety compliance for 22 service centers supporting more than 900 commercial drivers, implementing structured collision and injury review processes, conducting facility compliance audits, and delivering trend analysis that strengthened driver accountability and improved compliance with DOT, OSHA, and EPA requirements.

He began his career as a Safety Specialist, providing frontline DOT support through new hire and remedial driver training grounded in Smith System® principles, defensive driving, hazardous materials certification, and emergency incident response instruction, experience that set the foundation for his later leadership and program development work. Throughout his career, Mr. Vix developed and executed DOT-aligned safety programs, led root cause investigations, communicated emerging regulatory changes to appropriate stakeholders, and contributed to enterprise risk management solutions.

His leadership and expertise have been recognized through multiple industry honors, including serving as Chairman of the Board for the Texas Trucking Association (2016-2017) and Chairman of the Board for the Houston Council of Safety Professionals (2015-2016). Mr. Vix was also the recipient of the TXTA Distinguished Safety Award (2015) and the Joe Atkinson Distinguished Safety Award (2011).
