Background
Jimmy Monahan, P.E., is an accomplished engineering professional with over 13 years of experience specializing in building envelope consulting, project management, and structural engineering. As the Structural Engineering Practice Leader for the Northeast region, Mr. Monahan oversees a growing team that supports projects from Maine to Virginia. His team provides structural engineering support across all verticals, including assessments, design services, renovation, and rehabilitation efforts, and is expanding into special inspections and concrete scanning services.
Mr. Monahan’s team is highly experienced in performing multi-building assessments, surveys, and compliance inspections, including FISP inspections, parapet evaluations, Local Law 126 garage inspections, and NY Title 19 parking structure assessments. They operate across key compliance jurisdictions, including New Jersey, New York City, Buffalo, Boston, and Philadelphia. Known for their ability to mobilize quickly, deliver rapid turnaround, and maintain strong communication, the team consistently supports large-scale restoration and compliance efforts.
Currently, Mr. Monahan manages capital projects related to Local Law 11/FISP and roof restoration for 171 buildings in the Bronx, New York, for two major clients. His expertise includes developing comprehensive repair designs and managing projects with construction costs ranging from $5 to $15 million annually.
Prior to joining Rimkus, Mr. Monahan worked as a structural engineer focusing on the design of load-bearing structures composed of steel, concrete, and masonry. His portfolio includes commercial buildings, residential high-rises, freestanding and retaining walls, dunnage and equipment supports, platforms, foundations, and braced frames.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering with a concentration in Structural, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Design and Construction. Mr. Monahan is licensed in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Texas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and is pursuing licensure in Virginia and Washington, D.C. He is a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI), Qualified Parking Structure Inspector (QPSI), and Qualified Retaining Wall Inspector (QRWI).
Throughout his career, Mr. Monahan has demonstrated a consistent ability to deliver successful projects on time and within budget. He is highly skilled in façade and roof inspections, leak investigations, project management, construction administration, and client coordination. He is an active member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) and the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM).
Looking ahead, Mr. Monahan is committed to growing the built environment solutions practice in New York and expanding into multiple markets across the country. He is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders on his team and plans to pursue additional certifications, such as Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), to further enhance his expertise.
