Background

Mr. Potts is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Being licensed in California for over 25 years, his experience includes resort, transit, airport, and civic center planning; feasibility, property assessments, code analysis, pre-design, and pre-construction services; building design, the preparation and review of construction documents and specifications; building consultant coordination; construction claims and disputes; construction administration, project management, and construction management. The delivery methods he has used include Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery methods, as well as traditional methods. His covered sectors include K-12 and higher education, healthcare (OSHPD), aviation, municipal, justice, commercial, Type-I to Type-V, single-family, multi-family, high-rise, and retail projects. Outside of design services, he has also worked in construction and has served as an Owner’s Representative for the Palo Alto Unified School District. All K-12 work focused on or included significant ADA accessibility improvements.

In addition to Mr. Potts’ design and construction background, for several years he has been retained as an expert in the forensics sector of the A.E.C. industry, which includes single-party and class-action investigations and remediations pertaining to the building envelope; plaza and elevated decks; slab flatness and cure issues; window and curtain wall systems; historic preservation and repairs; roofing systems; paints and coatings; potential material defects; noise and vibration issues and code compliance; site and drainage matters; structural and seismic issues; flood, wildfire, and earthquake caused conditions; mold issues; and flooring issues. He has assisted property owners and tenants with accessibility matters, as well as participated in investigations of critical airport operational facilities. Mr. Potts has investigated private residences; Type-1, Type-IV, and Type-V condominiums; hotels, civic, and educational facilities; National Park Service facilities; stores, restaurants, historic high-rise office buildings, contemporary high-rises, and civic facilities.
