Along with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mr. Johnny Phanthala is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. He has over 20 years of experience in construction oversight, best practices, materials testing, quality control, building condition assessments, and forensic investigations of failed or damaged building components for commercial, industrial, and residential properties. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous legal cases related to property damage, building failures, and construction defect claims.
Mr. Phanthala has been responsible for leading a team of engineers on large and complex multi-million-dollar construction projects, such as high-rise condominiums, multi-story parking structures, hospitals, and airports. He has completed multiple evaluations involving the failure modes of general building components such as foundations, walls, floors, claddings, and roofs for commercial, industrial, and residential properties. He also provides recommendations for repairs and/or replacement of these failed systems.
Mr. Phanthala’s areas of expertise include construction observation related to installation of deep and shallow foundation systems, ground improvement techniques, visual engineering classification of soils, soils testing related to foundation subgrade bearing pressures and soil density testing, plastic and hardened concrete testing, concrete moisture emissions testing for flooring systems, pavement subgrade evaluations, masonry inspections, installation of post-tensioning components in concrete structures, environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II), installation and maintenance of stormwater management best practices, vibration monitoring, building condition assessments, historical building restoration, installation and failure assessments of External Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS), as well as determining cause of building failures, water intrusion evaluations, and determining the extent of damage to building components ranging from building foundations to roofs using Destructive and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
