Background

Mr. Richard Stone holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering.  He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia.  He has an extensive background in engineering design and forensics.  Mr. Stone has provided deposition testimony in support of technical findings.  Mr. Stone has experience in structural engineering analysis and design, cause and origin/construction defect analysis, building envelope consulting, premises liability, and human factors.

As a structural engineer, Mr. Stone’s design and analysis experience included the design of foundations, superstructure and retaining structures, steel connections, multi-discipline design coordination, BIM modeling, and construction administration.  His projects included commercial office and retail buildings, healthcare facilities, institutional classroom facilities, multi-family mixed-use facilities, municipal buildings, and storm shelters.  Mr. Stone’s experience has encompassed projects with nearly every building material, including wood and timber, light-gauge steel, aluminum, structural steel, plain, mild- and post-tensioned reinforced concrete, and plain and reinforced masonry.

Since joining Rimkus in 2018, Mr. Stone has performed or assisted in more than 600 engineering investigations for law firms, insurance companies, construction firms, and property owners.  Mr. Stone’s work in the field of forensics includes the analysis of failures or other performance problems in civil/structural engineering applications and evaluation of alleged design and construction defects.  Additionally, he has conducted evaluations of walking surfaces in accidents that occurred in a variety of venues, including exterior and interior applications. In the course of completing these evaluations, he has determined compliance with walkway safety standards, building code, and ADA requirements.
