Background

Mr. Sam Carruthers-Thorne holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and is currently licensed in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He has 9 years of experience in the design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; and fire protection systems. He has been active in every stage of the life cycle of building design from planning to final occupancy and maintenance.

Mr. Carruthers-Thorne’s design experience covers a wide array of building types, including single-family residential, skilled nursing, retail, hospitality, food service, government work, and high-rise multi-family. His experience covers new construction, retrofit work, and renovation of historic buildings. He is experienced in the design and implementation of a variety of system types, including Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS), traditional packaged and split direct expansion systems, chilled water systems, Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV), geothermal systems, and others.

Mr. Carruthers-Thorne has inspected and diagnosed root causes on a wide array of matters such as equipment malfunctions, and installation/construction defects. He has evaluated the condition of existing equipment and advised on its reuse versus replacement. He has evaluated new and existing construction at the component level and the system level. He has also inspected instances of moisture intrusion and he has identified and remedied issues causing humidity problems.
