
Background
Mr. Allan Kidd holds a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University and has passed the EIT exam (now known as the FE exam). He has nearly 40 years of experience in the construction industry with a strong focus on commercial and residential roofing. His experience includes investigation and evaluation of existing low-sloped and steep-sloped commercial and residential roofing systems for building owners, managers, and insurance adjusters; project administration and quality assurance of single-ply, bituminous, shingle, and metal roof systems; preparing and reviewing plans, details, and specifications for roofing projects; non-destructive evaluations, including infrared, nuclear, and capacitance; forensic investigations and expert testimony; services to the insurance community including cause and origin for wind, hail, and moisture; questionable claims; and subrogation support. Mr. Kidd has met the requirements of both Windstorm and IAUA to serve as an umpire and appraiser on disputed insurance claims.
Mr. Kidd has been a member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) (formally the Roof Consultants Institute) since 1988 and served an extended term on the Board of Directors of the Roof Consultants Institute, representing the southeast United States. He is active in the institute in many areas of IIBEC, including 9 years on the Peer Review Committee for IIBEC’s trade magazine Interface, and he is currently a member of the prestigious Technical Advisory Committee. IIBEC has recognized Mr. Kidd as a Registered Roof Consultant (RCC) since 1992. The RRC designation requires a minimum of 12 hours of roofing and/or waterproofing continuing education annually, and Mr. Kidd routinely exceeds this amount. IIBEC has utilized Mr. Kidd as an instructor for several of its educational courses. Mr. Kidd has been a member of the Carolina Chapter of IIBEC since its inception and served as the President. He recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the chapter.
In 1988, Mr. Kidd became the first liaison between the Roof Consultants Institute and the Roofing Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) and has remained involved with RICOWI through the years as time has permitted. He has deployed with RICOWI on several hail and hurricane investigations.
