Background
Along with a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. John Woscek is a registered professional engineer in California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington with a broad knowledge in the field of mechanical and reliability engineering. He is a certified Associate Ride Inspector through the Amusement Industry, Manufacturers, and Suppliers, International (AIMS). He has lectured at California State University, Fullerton, teaching failure analysis and machine design to college seniors and graduate students, and presented numerous case studies to prospective and current clientele.
Mr. Woscek has over 15 years of diversified engineering and project management experience within the amusement park and forensic engineering industries. Prior to joining Rimkus, he was responsible for the maintenance and safety of Disneyland Resort theme park attractions. His responsibilities involved investigating downtimes, determining root causes, designing and implementing new components, and reporting his findings to notable stakeholders, as well as running reliability reports to improve attraction uptimes. In addition to his primary job focus, Mr. Woscek led and managed maintenance crews during multiple refurbishment projects, enabling him to work closely with a multitude of different ride mechanisms, such as hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, rotary manifolds, chain drives, variable frequency drives, AC and DC motors, elevator systems, linear induction motors, automated control interfaces, steam- and gas-powered engines, locomotives, marine equipment, underwater surveillance, water pumps, flumes, rafts, and attraction access gates.
Mr. Woscek’s unique expertise also encompasses the investigation of mechanical failures and premises liability claims in amusement park attraction vehicles and systems, including playground and sporting equipment. Furthermore, he has led several environmental investigations related to smoke and soot damage, most notably acting as a liaison between senior leadership and environmental field consultants during the Los Angeles and Lahaina Wildfire inspection efforts.
As an active member in the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) F24 and F08 Committees, Mr. Woscek has approved and reviewed numerous standards and codes that have been implemented worldwide within the amusement park, playground, and sports safety industries. Through his work with AIMS, Mr. Woscek has maintained his knowledge in attraction operations, maintenance, and inspection of permanent and mobile attractions, as well as an understanding of newer technologies and their implementation in the amusement landscape.
