Background
Dr. Masoud Pourbab is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas and a structural and forensic engineer with over 25 years of experience in structural design, assessment, rehabilitation, and failure investigation of residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial structures. His expertise includes structural condition assessment, storm damage evaluation, foundation performance assessment, moisture intrusion, building envelope investigations, building code compliance, and root cause analysis of structural and material failures. He has performed forensic investigations involving structural and building envelope distress and provided engineering evaluations supported by field inspections, advanced structural analysis, and preparation of technical engineering reports.
Dr. Pourbaba has extensive experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete, steel, and foundation systems, including high-rise buildings, educational facilities, and data center facilities in both the United States and internationally. His data center experience includes structural modeling and design of gravity- and lateral load-resisting systems, foundation systems supporting heavy mechanical and electrical equipment, and verification of structural performance in accordance with project-specific criteria and applicable building codes. He has also performed field inspections of data center facilities during construction to evaluate structural implementation and compliance with design intent.
Prior to joining Rimkus, Dr. Pourbaba served in senior structural engineering and forensic roles in both the United States and internationally. He has managed complex projects from conceptual design through construction administration and has provided strengthening solutions using concrete jacketing, steel retrofits, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) systems, and foundation remediation techniques.
Dr. Pourbaba holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with research focused on advanced cementitious materials, including ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and FRP applications in structural systems. He has authored peer-reviewed publications related to structural rehabilitation and material behavior in high-impact journals such as ASTM International and Construction and Building Materials. His research has focused on practical structural applications directly relevant to design, performance evaluation, and rehabilitation engineering. He also serves as a peer reviewer for leading journals, including ACI Structural Journal, Journal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering, International Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, and Case Studies in Construction Materials.
