Background

Mr. Matthew Stevens received his B.A. and M.S. in Architecture and is a licensed Residential Building Contractor (Minnesota) and a Certified Lead Renovator.

He has more than 30 years of construction industry experience handling contract and project management, construction documentation, building code compliance, construction site supervision, property insurance claims, property restoration, structural restorations, construction and restoration cost estimating, and construction defects for residential, multi-family, and commercial construction projects. His vast experience in the construction industry includes experience in project management, scheduling, staging, and hands on knowledge and skill of construction trades including excavation; foundations/masonry; rough and finish carpentry; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) installations; roofing; and interior and exterior finishes, coatings, and fenestrations. His knowledge and hands-on experience extends to the finished landscape, including pool installations, patios, decks and porches, segmental retained walls, boulder walls, gabion walls, and retention ponds and dredging operations.

Mr. Stevens has extensive industry experience in wood and concrete footings; concrete masonry unit (CMU) and cast-in-place concrete foundations; wood foundations; insulated concrete form (ICF) construction, including foundations, walls, and suspended slabs, slab-on-grade construction; and radiant slabs and wood framed-floor systems; floor and roof truss systems; low-slope and steep-slope roof assemblies and coverings; masonry; interior and exterior wall coverings; single-family residence construction; multi-family building construction; and custom home building. He has worked in the restoration construction field as an estimator, supervisor, trainer, tradesman, and project manager to repair and restore properties following large loss disasters such as floods, fires, tornados, hurricanes, mudslides, wildfires, and earthquakes.

Mr. Stevens has worked in and with the insurance industry for over 14 years, internally as a site adjuster, scope auditor, and externally as a contractor, tradesman, estimator, building consultant, supervisor, and project manager.  He has experience in residential and commercial claim handling, appraisals, dispute resolution, site inspections/investigation, damage assessment, catastrophe events, and Xactimate and RS Means estimating software.  He has conducted large loss estimate reviews to determine accuracy in damage assessment, cost of total damages, and accuracy and efficiency in repair protocols.  His current work in the field of forensic engineering includes property damage investigation, construction defects, premises liability, storm and catastrophe event damage assessment, subrogation reviews, fire damage, hail damage, wind damage, water intrusion, water and smoke damage, insurance claims, appraisals, estimating, building code compliance, roof evaluations, construction observation/evaluation, and repair cost estimate/repair protocol evaluation and analysis.
