Background
Mike Powers is a chartered engineer and expert witness with 40 years’ experience in building services installation, management and design. For the past 20 years, he has undertaken expert advisory and expert witness appointments throughout the United Kingdom across a broad range of construction and property sectors.
As a member of Rimkus’ Expert Services Group, Mike provides independent expert opinion and technical advisory services on MEP design and installation. His experience encompasses both mechanical and electrical building services, with particular expertise in electrical systems including HV and LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems, generators, UPS, harmonics, and power quality.
Mike has experience across a broad range of construction and property sectors. He has led the design and management of building services works across a wide range of schemes, including large-scale retail malls, rail stations, rail freight schemes, advanced manufacturing facilities, and energy-from-waste projects. He has acted as an expert advisor and expert witness on numerous schemes across healthcare (urgent care, mental health, acute care, and outpatient care), blue light (police), government estates, compulsory education, and courts, many of which form part of large PFI estates.
In addition to his regular work, Mike is actively involved with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, advising on Training and Development, Mentoring, and Technical Review for the CIBSE Technical Symposium.
