Background

Mr. Reza Shabani holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, a Master of Science in construction management, and M.Eng. in structural engineering from the University of Toronto. He is a registered professional engineer in California, Nevada, Idaho, and Texas. Mr. Shabani has been a California-licensed engineer since 2007 and a California-licensed General Contractor A & B since 2008. He has over 23 years of experience in the construction industry working in varied disciplines such as design, construction, and inspection in diverse markets.

Mr. Shabani has an extensive work experience as a civil and structural design engineer specializing in the development, and delivery of a wide range of sites, buildings, and structures in the commercial, residential, modular, and government sectors. His expertise includes the design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, structural lumber, cold-formed steel, and reinforced masonry, as well as all stages of project development, and analysis of lateral force-resisting systems. He is well-versed in various building codes and standards such as International Building Code (IBC), Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7), Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI-318), Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 360), National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS), and Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 402). He is proficient in using structural analysis modeling software to develop spreadsheets and structural calculation programs.

In addition to his work as a civil and structural design engineer, Mr. Shabani is a licensed California General A & B Contractor and a certified ICC inspector. He has been actively working as a general contractor for the past 16 years. Mr. Shabani has extensive experience in the construction and evaluation of buildings, roofing and framing systems, bridges, right-of-way construction, roads, site drainage, site retention elements, grading, deep foundation piles, and underground utilities.

As a general contractor, Mr. Shabani has been responsible for contract documents, contract budgeting, work scheduling, cost estimating, bid preparation, subcontractor awarding, site communication, site coordination, jobsite safety, Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC).  He has experience in forensic cause and origin investigations and analysis, application of various past building codes and proper compliance, and performing field investigations for structural damage.

As a senior consultant at Rimkus, Mr. Shabani leverages his many years of experience as a design engineer and contractor to provide expert forensic analysis following a wide variety of structural failures, damage assessment, building envelope issues, repair and retrofit design, and repair cost estimates.
