Neil Murphy

Background

Mr. Neil Murphy is a Senior Fire Consultant with more than 38 years of experience in fire investigation, law enforcement, and forensic origin and cause analysis. Throughout his career, he has investigated or assisted in the investigation of more than 2,500 fire and explosion incidents involving residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional structures, as well as passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, farm machinery, and mass transit vehicles.

Mr. Murphy conducts origin and cause investigations utilizing the systematic methodology outlined in NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, and meets the professional qualifications established by NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator. His investigations routinely include scene examinations, documentation and preservation of physical evidence, witness interviews, fire pattern interpretation, electrical system evaluations, hypothesis development and testing, destructive examinations, laboratory coordination, and technical report preparation.

Prior to entering the private forensic practice, Mr. Murphy served as a Special Agent and Arson Investigator with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, where he investigated complex fire and explosion incidents in coordination with local, state, and federal agencies. His experience also includes criminal investigations, insurance investigations, product-related fire losses, subrogation matters, and litigation support.

Mr. Murphy has been retained by insurance carriers, attorneys, corporations, governmental entities, and private clients to determine the origin and cause of fires and explosions. He has provided expert opinions in matters involving civil litigation, subrogation, product liability, and insurance coverage disputes.
